What is Strikethrough Text Generator?

A strikethrough text generator creates text with a line drawn through it by appending Unicode combining characters after each letter. Unlike HTML or Markdown strikethrough which requires platform support, Unicode combining characters work everywhere because they are part of the text itself. The single strikethrough uses combining long stroke overlay (U+0336), the most widely recognized style. Tilde through applies combining tilde overlay (U+0334) for a wavy line effect. Slash through uses combining short solidus overlay (U+0337) for a diagonal strike. Frequently Asked Questions

How does Unicode strikethrough work?+
Unicode combining characters are special characters that modify the character before them. By inserting a combining stroke overlay after each letter, the renderer draws a line through each character. This is different from HTML strikethrough tags.
Will this work on Discord?+
Yes. Discord renders Unicode combining characters so all three strikethrough styles will display correctly. Note that Discord also has its own Markdown strikethrough using tildes (~~text~~) which produces a slightly different visual effect.
Why does strikethrough look different on different platforms?+
Each platform and font renders combining characters slightly differently. The line thickness, position and spacing can vary between iOS, Android, Windows and Mac. The single strikethrough (U+0336) has the most consistent rendering across platforms.
Can I use strikethrough in emails?+
Yes if your email client supports Unicode rendering, which most modern clients do. Gmail, Outlook and Apple Mail all display combining character strikethrough correctly.
What is the difference between the three styles?+
Single strikethrough draws a horizontal line through the middle of each character. Tilde through draws a wavy line. Slash through draws a short diagonal line. The visual effect varies by font and platform.
Is my text sent to a server?+
No. The combining characters are applied entirely in your browser using JavaScript. No text data is transmitted anywhere.
