We're honest. PageSpeed Insights is a great tool with real advantages โ pick the one that fits your workflow.
CrUX Field Data: PSI's Unique Advantage
PageSpeed Insights is the only free tool that combines Lighthouse lab data with Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX) field data from real users. CrUX tells you what actual visitors experience โ not what a synthetic test measures. If your site has enough traffic, PSI shows real-world LCP, FID, CLS, and INP percentiles broken down by device. SlapMyWeb fetches PSI data via the API and includes it in audits, but the original PSI interface presents field vs lab comparisons more clearly. For pure Core Web Vitals monitoring, PSI remains the authoritative free source.
Beyond Performance: The 85% PSI Cannot See
PSI focuses almost entirely on performance and basic accessibility. It does not audit your title tags, meta descriptions, heading hierarchy, internal link structure, content readability, EEAT signals, security headers, SSL configuration, schema.org markup, or image SEO. SlapMyWeb runs 240+ checks across 10 pillars using 16 specialist modules. A site can score 95 on PSI and still have broken canonical tags, missing schema markup, thin content, no HSTS header, and orphaned internal links โ all of which SlapMyWeb catches and explains.
Actionability: Raw Scores vs Fix Instructions
PSI tells you "Reduce unused JavaScript โ potential savings of 245 KiB" but does not tell you which bundle to split, which library to lazy-load, or how to configure your build tool. SlapMyWeb's AI Coach takes all findings, ranks them by impact multiplied by effort, and generates specific code snippets โ an nginx gzip config, a next.config.js image optimization block, a meta tag fix, or a schema.org JSON-LD template. The difference is between knowing something is wrong and knowing exactly how to fix it.
Agency and Team Workflows
PSI is a single-URL tool with no concept of accounts, projects, history, or collaboration. Every scan is ephemeral โ you cannot compare this week's results to last month's, share a report link with a client, or manage multiple sites from a dashboard. SlapMyWeb provides scan history with deploy comparisons, public share links, multi-client management, bulk scanning, and white-label PDF reports on the Agency plan. For anyone managing more than one website, the workflow difference is significant.

Pick PageSpeed Insights when...
Pick PageSpeed Insights if you need a quick, free, no-login performance check with authoritative Google CrUX field data. PSI is the reference tool for Core Web Vitals and its scores directly reflect what Google uses for ranking signals. For a fast performance sanity check, nothing beats opening pagespeed.web.dev and pasting a URL.
