Everything runs locally in your browser with zero data sent to any server.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this tool require an internet connection?+
Only to load the page initially. Once loaded, speech synthesis runs entirely in your browser using built-in voices. No data is sent to any server.
Why are different voices available on different browsers?+
Each browser bundles its own speech synthesis engine. Chrome uses Google voices, Edge uses Microsoft voices, and Safari uses Apple voices. The number and quality vary by platform.
Can I download the audio as an MP3?+
The Web Speech API does not support audio file export natively. For downloadable audio, you would need a server-side TTS service. This tool is designed for quick listening and proofreading.
What languages are supported?+
The tool supports whatever languages your browser provides voices for. Most modern browsers include English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Arabic, and many more.
Why does word highlighting sometimes lag?+
Word boundary events depend on the browser speech engine. Some voices and browsers fire these events more reliably than others. Chrome typically has the best word boundary support.
Is there a character limit?+
There is no hard limit in the tool, but some browsers may truncate very long utterances (over ~30,000 characters). For very long text, consider breaking it into paragraphs.
Can I use this for accessibility testing?+
Yes, it is a great way to hear how your website content sounds when read aloud, which helps you evaluate its clarity and natural flow for screen reader users.
Does it work on mobile devices?+
Yes, most modern mobile browsers support the Web Speech API. iOS Safari and Android Chrome both provide speech synthesis with multiple voice options.
