Long-Tail Keywords
Specific, multi-word search phrases with lower volume but higher conversion rates.
Long-tail keywords are longer, more specific searches with lower individual volume but clearer intent — and far less competition. They are how a site with little authority earns its first traffic, because the top results for them are often as weak as yours. Collectively they usually outweigh the head terms.
Definition
Long-tail keywords are specific, multi-word search phrases (typically 3-5+ words) that have lower search volume but higher conversion rates and less competition. They make up approximately 70% of all search queries.
The "long tail" concept comes from the demand curve — while each long-tail keyword gets few searches, collectively they represent the majority of search traffic.
Why It Matters
Long-tail keywords are easier to rank for and indicate stronger purchase intent. "Buy red Nike Air Max size 42 Karachi" converts 5-10x better than "shoes" because the searcher knows exactly what they want.
Example
"WordPress website speed optimization plugin free" is a long-tail keyword. It has maybe 500 monthly searches, but the person searching is very likely to download or buy what you recommend.
