Google Analytics (GA4)
Google's free tool for tracking website traffic, user behavior, and conversions.
Google Analytics is Google's free analytics platform, currently GA4, which records what people do on your site and where they came from. For SEO it answers the question rankings cannot: whether the traffic a page earns actually engages or converts. It measures behaviour on your site, not your position in search.
Definition
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is a free web analytics platform that tracks website traffic, user behavior, conversions, and engagement metrics. GA4 replaced Universal Analytics in July 2023 with an event-based data model, cross-platform tracking, and machine learning insights.
Why It Matters
GA4 shows you where your traffic comes from, what users do on your site, where they drop off, and which pages convert. Without analytics, SEO is flying blind — you cannot optimize what you cannot measure.
Example
GA4 reveals that your blog gets 10K monthly visitors but only 2% click through to your product page. This insight leads to better internal CTAs, increasing conversion from blog traffic by 4x.
