Rich Snippets (Rich Results)

Enhanced search results showing extra info like ratings, prices, FAQs, or how-to steps.

Rich snippets are search results enhanced with extra detail drawn from structured data — star ratings, prices, cooking times, FAQs. They are earned rather than guaranteed: valid markup makes a result eligible, and Google decides whether to show it. They do not change ranking, but they change how much attention a result gets.

Definition

Rich snippets are enhanced search results that display additional information beyond the standard title, URL, and description. Types include: star ratings, FAQ dropdowns, how-to steps, product prices, recipe cards, event dates, and job postings.

Rich snippets are triggered by valid structured data (JSON-LD) on your pages. Google's Rich Results Test tool validates your markup.

Why It Matters

Rich snippets dramatically increase CTR — FAQPage rich results can increase clicks by 20-30%, product rich results by 30-40%. They make your listing stand out visually in a sea of plain blue links.

Example

A recipe page with Recipe schema shows cooking time, calories, and star rating directly in Google. A FAQ page with FAQPage schema shows expandable Q&A dropdowns. Both get significantly more clicks.
