WHOIS Lookup

Look up domain registration details — registrar, creation date, expiry and nameservers

What is WHOIS Lookup?

WHOIS is a protocol that queries domain registration databases. A WHOIS lookup reveals who registered a domain, when it was created, when it expires, which registrar manages it, and the authoritative nameservers. This information is essential for domain research, brand protection and checking domain availability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is some WHOIS data hidden?+
Many registrars offer WHOIS privacy protection that redacts personal information. Organization domains often show registrant details, while personal domains are usually privacy-protected.
What do domain status codes mean?+
Status codes like clientTransferProhibited prevent unauthorized transfers. ok means the domain has no restrictions. serverHold means the domain is suspended by the registry.
Can I check any TLD?+
We query Verisign WHOIS servers which cover .com, .net and many other TLDs. Some country-code TLDs may have limited data.
How accurate is the expiry date?+
Expiry dates come directly from the registry and are accurate. However, most registrars auto-renew domains, so an upcoming expiry does not necessarily mean the domain will become available.
