Frequently Asked Questions

What is PDF metadata?+
PDF metadata is hidden information embedded in the document file including title, author, subject, keywords, creation date, and the software that created it. Most PDF viewers show this in File > Properties.
Why should I edit PDF metadata?+
Common reasons: fixing incorrect author names, adding descriptive titles for organization, adding keywords for searchability, removing personal information before sharing, and setting proper subjects for archiving.
Are my files safe?+
Yes. The tool runs entirely in your browser. No files are uploaded to any server. Your documents stay on your device.
Can I remove all metadata?+
Yes. Clear all fields and save. The resulting PDF will have empty metadata fields. Note that the modification date will still be set to the current time.
Does editing metadata change the document content?+
No. Metadata changes only affect the document properties. The actual pages, text, images, and formatting remain completely untouched.
What about XMP metadata?+
This tool edits the standard PDF document information dictionary (Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, Producer, dates). Extended XMP metadata is not modified.
Can I edit metadata of a protected PDF?+
If the PDF has an owner password (restricting editing), the tool can usually still read and modify metadata. If it has a user password, use our PDF Unlocker first.
Will search engines read PDF metadata?+
Yes. Google and other search engines use PDF title and subject metadata when indexing PDF files. Well-written metadata can improve your PDF discoverability.
