What is PDF Password Protector?

PDF Password Protector encrypts a PDF in your browser using AES-256 (AESV3, 256-bit).

A user password encrypts the file: without it the document cannot be opened at all. An owner password is different — it records which actions you permit, such as printing or copying, but it does not encrypt the file against being opened, and a reader that chooses to ignore those permissions can. Set a user password if the point is to keep people out. The PDF and the passwords stay on your device.

How to use PDF Password Protector

    Upload your PDF

    Click the upload area or drag and drop a PDF file you want to protect.

    Set passwords

    Enter a user password — this is the one that encrypts the file and is required to open it. An owner password only records permissions, so on its own it will not stop anyone opening the document.
